Nicolas Rossignol in Pommard

There are only red wines in Pommard. They are among the most tannic and robust wines in Burgundy, much stronger than Beaune and Volnay close-by wines.

Although Pommard is one of the most well-known appellation of the region, the wine's quality decreased over the last decades. However, since a number of campaigns, Pommard wines is improving and the name is back into business.

Nicolas Rossignol is a famous winemaker in the small village of Volnay. His family owns some excellent vineyards in both villages Volnay and Pommard which is at the opposite side of the hill.

I met him last Tuesday on his terrace under the sun...great ambiance !

After a very interestingl presentation of his different wines and their main characters, Nicolas gave us to taste 8 differents wines of 2008.

The best was probably the "Pommard 1er cru Fremiet" : Nose very floral with violet and fresh cherry, a perfect balance in mouth and a long long long finish and aftertaste... awesome !
